The Stage: Manchester United were hosting Brentford in their eighth match of the season. The Red Devils were trailing behind by 0-1 at the Old Trafford. With recent below-par performances in the Champions League, United definitely needed Ho a win to boost the team's morale. However, with the match getting into the extra time, it didn't seem like any miracle was going to happen for the Old Trafford side.
The Difference Maker: It was the substitute Scott McTominay who took the matter into his own hands for his side. The Scottish international dug dip and came on with a 93rd and a 97th minute goals, to land the Red Devils an unexpected victory. The comeback win propelled United to 12 points. The club now has four wins and four losses in their first eight outings of the season.
The Analysis: McTominay's effort not only eased the pressure on manager Erik ten Hag but also made his side escape a loss that could have further dented the team's confidence. Just after the Champions League loss, a loss to Brentford in the Premier League, that too at home, might have pushed the team into a hollow. But, escaping from the jaws of the worst feeling, now the club has something to look forward to, as this comeback win must have given them immense belief.
